Symptoms of IBS – Irritable Bowel Syndrome

 

Symptoms of IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome can vary from person to person. Recent statistics have shown that as much as 15-50% of the US adult population suffer from IBS. Women of childbearing age seem to be subjected to this disease more than most. Moreover, statistics indicate that not more than 10% of the total amount of IBS sufferers contact their doctor for professional advice and diagnosis.

IBS or irritable bowel syndrome is a functional disorder of the colon. To be more specific, it is the irritation of our intestinal receptors which can be linked to lactose intolerance, fatty acid, purgatives, alimentary agents and other infections (dysbacteriosis), etc. It has been found that more often than not, IBS develops after an acute intestinal infection with dysbacteriosis. Individuals that have unusually high levels of stress are also susceptible to experiences IBS symptoms.
